Private Event Assistant

Job Type: Casual
Job Period: Permanent

Mennonite Heritage Village is looking for a reliable and energetic person to become our Private Event Assistant. The position helps support weddings, corporate events, community gatherings, and special functions. This is a casual position with limited hours in the winter months.

Reports to: Private Events Coordinator

Effective date: August 31, 2026

Hours of work: As required

Location: Steinbach, MB


Position Details:

  • Casual hours based on event bookings
  • Primarily evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Available until 1:00am for receptions

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with event setup and teardown
  • Arrange tables, chairs, linens, décor, and signage
  • Help maintain cleanliness during events
  • Support wedding ceremonies and receptions including tear down, late hours, opening gates, and locking up at the end of the night
  • Assist clients, vendors, and guests with professionalism
  • Help with basic decorating and event preparation
  • Work independently during certain shifts and event setups
  • Safely use ladders for decorating
  • Follow venue policies and safety procedures

  • Event, hospitality, or customer service experience is an asset but not required

Reception Assistant

Job Type: Part-Time
Job Period: Permanent

Mennonite Heritage Village is hiring a part-time Reception Assistant. This position serves as a welcome ambassador for the museum, Village Books & Gifts, and The General Store. Customer service excellence and a passion for history are key qualifications for this position.

Reports to: Visitor Experience & Office Administrator

Position Type: Permament Part-time

Effective date: August 17, 2026

Hours of work: 25-35 hours per week


Qualifications

Education and Training:

  • High school diploma

Experience:

  • 2 to 3 years of retail experience preferred

Skills and Competencies:

  • A creative approach to merchandising
  • A strong customer service orientation
  • An eye for detail
  • A basic understanding of business
  • An interest in things historical
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications

This position is responsible for supporting the daily routine involved in the Office, Reception/Admissions, and the Gift Shop. This position reports to the Visitor Experience and OFfice Administrator. It will required varied work shifts at different times of the day, weekends, and holidays as required.


Deliverables and Responsibilities

Deliverable 1 – Reception/Admissions Support
  • Greet visitors appropriately, face to face or by phone.
  • Assess and respond promptly to inquiries, clarify needs, and provide customer service in a professional manner.
  • Complete cash out at Reception and the Gift Shop at end of day.
  • Prepare outgoing mail for pick-up or courier, forms, and requests.
  • Process memberships and provide membership package material to new members.
  • Ensure the brochure racks, bulletin boards are current, and the lobby is tidy.
  • Ensure adequate coffee & office supplies are on hand for office functionality.
Deliverable 2 – Gift Shop Support
  • Provide a supportive role in Village Books & Gifts in keeping with company policies, procedures, displays, and merchandising.
  • Consistently provide customers with the highest level of service and professionalism.
  • Maintain current knowledge of MHV products, promotions, and company marketing initiatives.
  • Provide administrative support in the areas of the VBG online store, biannual inventory count/data entry, daily visitor log data entry, and price changes/updates in the store payment and inventory platform.
Deliverable 3 – Team Participation
  • Provide support on Festival Days as well as the activities of other MHV departments as required.
  • Be available for other tasks as may be assigned and agreed upon from time to time.
